Who is COACH G5?
Coach G5 aka G5 (for short) is Hoop Kid, Bernard Jones's know-it-all talking basketball that’s always voicing his opinion or telling jokes. Bernard bought it online from a Japanese sporting goods company to help him improve his game and chances of making his high school team. G5 is the first-ever AI-equipped talking basketball designed to help coach you as you play and give you tips to improve. But after being struck by lightning during a thunderstorm, G5 mysteriously became eerily less computer-like and robotic and more sentient and annoying!
Before the storm, he would tell you: “Good try, maybe next time.” After the storm, he started saying things like: “Wowsers, you flubbed that one up, didn’t you? You still need some work, kid!” Before the storm, if you asked who Michael Jordan is, G5 would say: “Michael Jeffrey Jordan (born February 17, 1963) is an American former professional basketball player and businessman.” After the storm: “Hahaha, you’ve got to be kidding, you don’t know who MJ is? The GOAT? Boy, that is just sad. Wowsers.”
Bernard and G5 laugh and joke and act silly together more than they train. However, in public, Bernard is usually apologizing for G5’s unfiltered honesty. But to Bernard’s surprise, G5 sometimes has a serious, philosophical side that offers him sound advice about life.
Beyond that, G5 is always revealing new upgrades and hidden features that Bernard doesn’t know exist, like when Bernard was in a jam and needed a haircut. G5 revealed a set of retractable robot arms and offered to give Bernard a fresh cut to keep him out of trouble. In which case, Bernard also learned G5 is a terrible barber.
